Anti-Torture Protestors Greet Yoo Book Tour Feb. 11, 2010
SAN MATEO, Calif. (KCBS) — Former Bush Administration lawyer and U.C. Berkeley Professor John Yoo was met with protestors at a speaking engagement in San Mateo Thursday, as he promoted his new book.
KCBS’ Margie Shafer Reports Yoo spoke to the San Mateo Rotary Club, saying Al-Qaeda started a war with the United States on September 11th, 2001.
“Because of the unconventional way that they fight against us, the best means for us to stop them from carrying out more attacks on the United States is through interrogation,” said Yoo.
He says that what constitutes torture is a tough line to draw.
“I don’t think that the policies that the Bush Administration approved crossed the line,” said Yoo. “There always could be cases where people went too far, or violated their authority.”
However, Yoo says the U.S. has the right to use force in its own self defense.
Yoo was met by a handful of protestors.
“We would like to see John Yoo fired from his job at U.C. Berkeley, and indicted and prosecuted for his role in torture,” said protestor Cynthia Papermaster.
Yoo has just written a book called “Crisis in Command,” which is a history of presidential power.

Back To School: The John Yoo Edition
By Ashby JonesWe’re sure that, for many, the living is good as a faculty member at the UC Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) (yes that’s what the school likes to be called). After all, you’ve got the great weather, proximity to San Francisco, world-class resources, an intellectually vibrant student body, and an avenue called Ashby. What’s not to love? But the living is not quite so easy for John Woo, the tenured Berkeley law professor and former Bush administration lawyer who, while in the White House, authored controversial legal memos justifying the use of enhanced interrogation techniques.Read more here: http://blogs.wsj.com/law/2009/08/18/back-to-school-the-john-yoo-edition/ - from No Lies Radio:
